Announcements and Upcoming Events Save the Date: Health Fair at ODS on May 4th, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 pm. ODS PTA, Bayside Health Sciences, and ODS Students will be showcasing several health and wellness related stations. This event is a combination of the previous PTA sponsored Spring Fling and the Wellness Fair sponsored by Bayside Health Sciences Academy. The stations will include but are not limited to: Learning Basic CPR, Fingerprinting Stations, Microscopy Lab, Medical Cases, Health Sciences Career Stations, Face Painting, Recreational Sports, and Chess. Announcements and Upcoming Events Lost & Found is overflowing! Please have your child check the Lost & Found carts in the cafeteria or ask in the main office about any electronics or valuables before April 11. Any items not claimed by Spring Break will be donated. Spring Scavenger and Egg Hunt - Saturday, April 6, 12 - 2 p.m., $5 donation requested The ODS L.E.A.P. (Leaders for the Environment, Animals, and People) Club is sponsoring a scavenger and egg hunt outdoors on ODS grounds. There will also be bunnies to visit, prizes, and educational booths. All proceeds will be donated to the VBSPCA to pay the adoption fees of bunnies. After Easter, many bunnies are relinquished to the SPCA. In paying the fees, the club hopes more bunnies will be adopted into homes that can accomodate them. The Club is also collecting donations for the Union Mission Ministries. School Pictures - payment due by April 5 Individual pictures were sent home last week. Please return payment, or unwanted photos, by the April 5th deadline. All prepaid class photos were also sent home. There are still extra class photos for $17, cash or check made payable to Lifetouch. Announcements and Upcoming Events The Beach Girls Rock, a leadership empowerment series for girls in Grades 5-8 in Virginia Beach City Public Schools since 2013, will host its final workshop of the year Saturday, March 30 at Salem High School from 8 a.m. to noon. The theme is “All the World’s a Stage: Take the Lead” which will spotlight the school’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy. The workshop will be designed to give girls the opportunity to focus on girl leadership, college-career readiness and interpersonal skills as well as, elementary to middle and middle to high school transitions. Parents or guardians are also welcomed to participate in the parent-focused breakout sessions which occur concurrent to student breakout sessions. Deadline to register is March 19th. After that date, parents must register their child at Salem High School on the day of the event. It is highly recommended that students pre-register by the 19th by completing the attached registration form and returning it to the ODS counseling office. Announcements and Upcoming Events ODS Speaker Series - “The Art of Creativity” Come out to celebrate our learning community at the spring alumni speaker series on Thursday, March 14th at 6:00 PM. The event is open to former and current students of all ages, their families and friends, and the community. Get inspired by alumni that will share their insights on creativity through a hybrid of performance and panel discussion. Alumni include current Governor School for the Arts students, former Gifted Dance students, authors and artists, exploring creativity through a variety of disciplines. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:00 PM for tours, a pop-up art show, and Capstone presentations in the atrium. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! Department: Our “Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables” program starts on March 1st and ends March 28th (Thursday) ** Check out the attached flyer for more information including a tracking calendar ** BINGO NIGHT IS BACK! - Friday, March 8 Please support our Destination Imagination teams by coming to our very popular Bingo Night on Friday, March 8, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., in the cafeteria. There will be amazing prizes for winners and even more amazing silent auction items up for bid. Pre-order dinner and bingo cards, so they are available when you arrive. (Dinner must be pre-ordered, if interested.) Subway sub sandwich, chips, drink and bingo cards - only $10 per person. Bingo cards only- $5 per person. For two weeks, beginning Friday, February 22- Friday March 8, you can drop your donations to the bins in the cafeteria. New, or like-new, items needed include: Socks Beanies (knit caps / hats) Gloves Small shelf-stable snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers) Hand wipes/tissues Refillable water bottles Reusable bags (drawstring, backpack) Band-Aids Cough drops Hand sanitizer Chapstick Lotion Blankets Towels YEARBOOK SALES The ODS yearbooks are available for pre-ordering online. This series will be offered monthly throughout the school year with the goal of providing parents of twice exceptional children an opportunity to come together and discuss topics relevant to their unique needs.
